Specialist Advisory Teacher – Deaf and Hearing Impaired – Cumberland

Cumberland County Council Sensory Impairment Team are seeking to appoint a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD) or an experienced teacher of children and young people (C&YP) with SEND, who is willing to complete the post graduate mandatory qualification (MQ) to become a QTOD. Training would be funded for a suitable candidate to gain the MQ.

The work will cover the whole of Cumberland with a significant portion of the caseload based in the Carlisle area. There is flexibility to have an office base in either Workington or Carlisle.

The successful applicant will work as an integral member of a county wide Sensory Team, alongside QTODs, Qualified Teachers of Visual Impairment (QTVIs) and sensory Higher Level Teaching Assistants, (HLTAs). The work is peripatetic and provides support to children and young people, schools/settings and families. The successful candidate will be joining an established and forward thinking team. You will have experience of working with Deaf C&YP and be willing to learn new skills. You will be required to provide support from preschool to post 16 and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills. A commitment to inclusive education and high aspirations for Deaf C&YP in Cumberland is essential .
