DESCRIPTION:Are you a Teacher of the Deaf\, an Educational Audiologist\, a Rehabilitation Therapist or a Speech & Language Therapist. If so\, do you fancy some free counselling training\, equivalent to 14 hours of training? The course we offer is delivered in three parts. \nPart One (The Learn Phase) – 1.5 hours online \nYou will receive an introduction to counselling\, statistics pertaining to hearing loss-related mental health and an overview of why counselling support is beneficial for this group. Towards the end of this session\, we will also cover listening skills. \nPart Two (The Practice Phase) – 10 hours in person \nYou will receive an informative introduction to Humanistic Therapy\, one of the tenets of person-centred therapy. You will be guided through engaging content followed by thought-provoking questions designed to enhance your learning. You will be provided with scenarios\, and practical tips so that you can empower adults and families impacted by hearing loss. You will also get an opportunity to practice those counselling skills. \nPart Three (The Master Phase) – 2.5 hours online \nYou will now get an opportunity to present a brief case study based on your practice. This is made easy using a template we provide. All case studies are anonymised to ensure confidentiality\, but as a group we will come together online to provide feedback\, drawing on the humanistic skills we have learnt. \n  \nDATES FOR LONDON \nPart 1: January 21st at 6PM (online) \nPart 2: February 6th and 7th (in person) \nPart 3: February 24th or 25th* at 6PM (online) \n  \n* A second provisional date is provided for Part 3. DESCRIPTION:  \nWorking Through Audition \nWorking Through Audition is the foundation part of AVUK’s in-depth training package – delivered in person at The Kings Fund\, 11–13 Cavendish Square\, London\, W1G 0AN \nCourse content \nThis foundation course is designed to equip you with the practical skills needed to accelerate spoken language development through listening in pre-school aged children with hearing loss and their families. \nTopics include: \n\nWorking through audition\nMoving on from the ling sounds\nGoing from one to two key words\nChecking understanding through listening\nSpeech acoustics\nThe parent journey\n\nFor more information on this course\, click here. \nStructure \nThis course has been designed to be delivered in person to participants and combines self-study and group mentoring. All of the training is accessed via our cloud-based learning platform\, no special software or equipment is required to participate. \nThe theory elements of this training are delivered through a series of pre-recorded video tutorials that participants can watch at a time that suits them.  At the end of each tutorial participants are required to complete written and practical assignments for discussion at their cohort’s group mentoring session. The assignments include incorporating specific activities into their upcoming sessions and participants will need to record these sessions. \nThe group mentoring sessions are an opportunity for participants to share and reflect on their experiences putting theory into practice in a secure environment and to receive coaching and guidance for further development from their course tutor. \nAt the end of the course\, participants are required to complete a final written and video assignment. The event is for professionals working with autistic deaf children and young people in mainstream settings\, resource provisions and specialist placements. \nThe day will look at Way to Play\, an approach to playing joyously with young autistic children\, developed by Neil Stuart and Tanya Blakey from Autism New Zealand. \nThe approach helps to build children’s communication\, social reciprocity\, shared attention\, imitation\, emotion regulation\, planning\, and problem-solving skills through joyful caregiver-child interactions. The course we offer is delivered in three parts. \nPart One (The Learn Phase) – 1.5 hours online \nYou will receive an introduction to counselling\, statistics pertaining to hearing loss-related mental health and an overview of why counselling support is beneficial for this group. Towards the end of this session\, we will also cover listening skills. \nPart Two (The Practice Phase) – 10 hours in person \nYou will receive an informative introduction to Humanistic Therapy\, one of the tenets of person-centred therapy. You will be guided through engaging content followed by thought-provoking questions designed to enhance your learning. You will be provided with scenarios\, and practical tips so that you can empower adults and families impacted by hearing loss. You will also get an opportunity to practice those counselling skills. \nPart Three (The Master Phase) – 2.5 hours online \nYou will now get an opportunity to present a brief case study based on your practice. This is made easy using a template we provide. All case studies are anonymised to ensure confidentiality\, but as a group we will come together online to provide feedback\, drawing on the humanistic skills we have learnt. \n  \nDATES FOR SHEFFIELD \nPart 1: March 4th at 6PM (online) \nPart 2: March 20th and 21st (in person) \nPart 3: April 15th or 16th* at 6PM (online) \n  \n* A second provisional date is provided for Part 3. For groups larger than 12\, the cohort will be divided into two so we can complete Part 3. You will have a choice of either date if you are in a group of 12 or more.
